Convert Huntington Bank Statements to Excel and CSV

A Huntington statement groups transactions into sections such as Deposit and Credit Activity (+), Debit Card and POS Activity (-), and Other Withdrawal and Debit Activity (-). Amounts inside a section are printed without a sign, so the section heading decides whether money came in or went out.

Statements to Sheets follows those headings: rows under a deposit section are positive, and rows under a withdrawal section are negative.

Upload your Huntington statement to see the first rows before you pay. The first 50 transactions are free.

Why a Huntington statement is hard to convert

No row has a minus sign. A grocery purchase and a payroll deposit are both printed as plain positive numbers. Pasted into a spreadsheet, the totals add money you spent to money you earned.

The meaning comes from the heading above. The sign depends on which section the row is in, and a section can start on one page and continue on the next. A converter that treats each page on its own loses the section at the top of the second page.

The year is only in the header. Rows show a month and a day, so the year has to be read from the statement date and added to every row.

How a Huntington statement is laid out

Columns as printed on the statement:

Date | Description | Amount

  • Dates are printed as MM/DD with no year.
  • The sign of an amount is not printed on the row; it comes from the section heading above it.
  • A statement often has several sections, and a section can continue on the next page.

How we convert it

  • Each amount takes its sign from the section it is in: deposit and credit sections are positive, and debit card, POS and other withdrawal sections are negative.
  • The section sign carries across page breaks until the next heading.
  • The year is taken from the statement header and added to every date.

Every conversion also checks each page against the page image, and lines that continue a wrapped description are not counted as extra transactions.

The result is a CSV with Date, Description and Amount columns (plus Balance when the statement has one) that opens in Excel and imports into Google Sheets and QuickBooks. You pay per transaction, not per page. See plans and pricing.

What people do with the file

Business bookkeeping. One CSV with signed amounts can go straight into QuickBooks, Xero or a Google Sheet, without marking each row as money in or money out by hand.

Year-end summaries. Convert the twelve monthly statements and total the signed column for the year, or use a pivot table to see debit card spending against other withdrawals.

Handing records to an accountant. A single sheet with full dates and signed amounts is easier to review than a folder of PDFs.

Good to know

  • Other Huntington account types and older layouts may differ from the layout described here.

Questions

How are deposits and withdrawals told apart?

By the section heading. Rows under Deposit and Credit Activity are positive, and rows under Debit Card, POS and Other Withdrawal activity are negative.

Will the year be in the date column?

Yes. Huntington prints only the month and day on each row, so the year is taken from the statement header.

What file formats can I download?

A CSV file, which opens directly in Excel and imports into Google Sheets and QuickBooks.

What happens when a section continues on the next page?

The sign from the last heading carries over until a new heading appears, so the rows at the top of the next page keep the right sign.
